Position Title: Communication Officer (Preferably Female)

Organization: A leading national civil society organization working on human rights and inclusive development in Pakistan.

Location: Islamabad based position
Type: Full-time
Reports to: Program Manager / Senior Management

Position Summary

The Communication Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing effective communication strategies to enhance the visibility, outreach, and impact of organization’s programs. The role requires strong storytelling skills, media engagement, and digital communication expertise to support advocacy campaigns, policy influence, and stakeholder engagement. Preference will be given to female candidates to promote gender balance and inclusive representation within the organization. Only Islamabad/ Rawalpindi based candidates will be shortlisted. 

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Communications & Content Development

  • Develop and implement organizational communication strategies aligned with program goals 

  • Draft high-quality content including press releases, policy briefs, newsletters, blogs, and success stories 

  • Prepare and Translate complex programmatic and policy information into accessible and impactful messaging in both Urdu and English languages

  • Document project outcomes, case studies, and human-interest stories (especially women and marginalized groups) 

2. Media & Public Relations

  • Build and maintain relationships with media houses, journalists, and influencers 

  • Facilitate media coverage of events, campaigns, and advocacy initiatives 

  • Monitor media coverage and prepare media tracking reports on organizational key thematic areas.

3. Digital & Social Media Management

  • Manage and regularly update organizational social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, website) 

  • Design and implement digital campaigns on key thematic areas 

  • Develop engaging visual and multimedia content (graphics, short videos, infographics) 

  • Monitor analytics and optimize digital outreach strategies 

4. Event Coverage & Documentation

  • Lead communication and visibility for events, consultations, and workshops 

  • Prepare event briefs, talking points, and post-event reports 

  • Ensure quality photography, videography, and documentation 

5. Donor & Partner Communications

  • Support preparation of donor reports, communication materials, and visibility products 

  • Ensure compliance with donor communication and branding guidelines 

6. Internal Coordination

  • Work closely with program teams to gather information and ensure consistent messaging 

  • Support development of advocacy materials and campaigns across projects 

  • Maintain a repository of communication materials, media coverage, and publications 

  • Undertake any other tasks and assignments related to communications as assigned by the management

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Media Studies, Journalism, Social Sciences, or related field 

  • Minimum 4–5 years of relevant experience in communications, preferably in the development sector 

  • Proven experience in media engagement, content writing, and digital communications 

  • Strong understanding of Pakistan’s socio-political context, governance, and human rights issues 

  • Experience working with NGOs, donor-funded projects, or advocacy campaigns 

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent writing and editing skills in English (Urdu proficiency is a strong advantage) 

  • Strong storytelling and content development abilities 

  • Proficiency in social media management tools and basic graphic design 

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines 

  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills 

  • Creative, proactive, and detail-oriented
