JOB SUMMARY  

The primary function of the Assistant, WASH (Hygiene Promotion) is to ensure the delivery of the WASH Hygiene promotion and community mobilization activities in the coordination and guidance of the Senior Officer WASH or WASH Manager or WASH Coordinator. 

Responsible for participating in hygiene campaigns, house-to-house hygiene promotion, preparing written material for the field, elaborating clear and adapted messages/activities for beneficiaries, and overseeing the hygiene promotion and other WASH activities conducted by the community volunteers.
The role supports the concept papers and proposals for interventions and provides data required in close cooperation with the team. Besides, the Senior Officer WASH or Officer WASH ensures the capacity building of assigned local staff and stakeholders in WASH-related program implementation is delivered.


MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assessment
•    Conduct the rapid needs assessments and their analysis and conduct household-level assessments.
•    Supports the WASH officer in transitioning needs identified into activity plans and budgets. 

Program Design and implementation
•    Deliver the implementation of the aims and objectives of the WASH response program in line with the WASH Coordinator or Manager's WASH guidance and WASH strategy.   
•    Support the development of concept papers, letters of intent, proposals, and budgets for assigned WASH areas. 
•    In collaboration with other actors, deliver a suitable hygiene promotion program that suits the local context (communities, health facilities, camps, and Schools), and would be widely accepted by beneficiaries.
•    Mobilize the community on behavior change related to hygiene practices and identify the most appropriate messages regarding the target population.
•    Actively participate with community volunteers in identifying locations/sites for WASH infrastructures (latrines construction/rehabilitation, borehole drilling/rehabilitation, etc.) in the beneficiary communities and coordinate closely with CHVs to identify informal settlements in host communities.
•    Conduct focus group discussions, giving clear messages on good hygiene practices. 
•    Organize training sessions and participate in facilitation in health facilities, IDP camps, Schools, and host communities and determine the necessary materials needed for each campaign/activity.
•    Conduct the selection and training of the Community Hygiene Volunteer (CHV) promoters and collect data for both CHV beneficiaries in communities.
•    Input beneficiaries' data into a spreadsheet to distribute NFI kits in communities and oversee the distribution of water, hygiene, and sanitation items.
•    Train and monitor CHVs on conducting hygiene promotion sessions and correctly completing their log sheets, documenting topics discussed, the advice provided, issues of concern for IMC follow-up action, and the number of attendees' sessions. 
•    Collect all CHVs' log sheets monthly and certify work done by CHVs. Report the progress of the work to the supervisor.
•    Participate in hygiene campaigns and drama shows in schools, community and IDP camps in close coordination with community volunteers. 
•    Facilitate in documenting health related data and keep records on activities of hygiene promotion.
•    Report challenges and successes during the activities and any other issues that require IMC follow-up/action.
•    If assigned, collect water samples from households and water sources and conduct quality tests using the Del Aqua Kit Record all results of the water test.
•    Complete daily reports on CHV's evaluation, water testing and NFI distribution.
•    Consult with M & E to provide accurate raw data for impact analysis during post distribution survey and to provide input for monthly and quarterly WASH reports and prepare monthly progress reports according to donor standards and templates, internal reports, and MEAL reports for concerned sectors.  
•    Timely reporting of Hygiene Promotion activities to the supervisor/WASH Officer

Information and Coordination
•    Provide regular updates and technical guidance to the WASH Coordinator or Manager WASH on progress, priorities, and challenges – verbally and in writing. 
•    Represent International Medical Corps as assigned by WASH Coordinator or Manager WASH in governmental and non-governmental groups as needed and agreed with the supervisor.
•    Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

•    Minimum bachelor's degree, in social sciences or relevant technical WASH specialization.
•    At least one year of work experience in implementing hygiene promotion systems in IDPs, refugee and migrant contexts.
•    Two years of experience supervising and interacting with international staff, partners, and donors. 
•    Field experience managing national water, sanitation, and hygiene programs in complex humanitarian settings, including emergency responses.
•    Experience in a national emergency and early recovery phases, including assessing and delivering hygiene promotion interventions in humanitarian and development contexts.
•    The ability to effectively analyze complex problems and suggest a solution that would have a positive impact.
•    Ability and understanding of the WASH sector and its software and hardware components.
•    Competent in using Windows and other software.
•    Ability to effectively present information (both written and verbal) and respond appropriately to questions from senior managers, field counterparts, and senior government officials. 
•    Ability to understand gender-related challenges within the beneficiary groups. 
•    The ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret, technical and non-technical, in the English language is required.
