Job Description:

A non profit organization is seeking a skilled and motivated DHIS II Developer to support the design, configuration, development, and deployment of DHIS2-based applications for healthcare initiatives. The role involves close collaboration with program teams and stakeholders to translate business and user requirements into effective technical solutions that enhance healthcare delivery and data management.

A DHIS II Developer designs, configures, and customizes DHIS2 systems to support effective health data collection and reporting. The role includes developing dashboards, indicators, and tracker programs to enable accurate analysis and decision-making. The candidate should have a strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Agile methodologies, and application development using modern frameworks and technologies. The role also requires expertise in building integrations and custom applications using DHIS2 APIs and JavaScript, managing data quality, imports, and system performance, and providing technical support, training, and documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with system analysts, designers, and program teams to translate user requirements into technical specifications.
• Design and configure DHIS2 instances, including metadata, datasets, programs, and analytics.
• Develop user-friendly and intuitive interfaces for DHIS2 applications and dashboards.
• Develop and customize DHIS2 add-on components and applications as required.
• Test applications in staging and production environments prior to deployment.
• Maintain and support DHIS2 systems post-deployment.
• Conduct User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and prepare user training manuals and guides.
• Develop and maintain technical, code, and design documentation.
• Provide support and documentation for DHIS2 different modules/ applications.
• Troubleshoot system, performance, and data-related issues and implement testing solutions.
• Develop and manage analytics dashboards and reporting tools, including Power BI, to provide actionable insights.
• Provide end-user support and document troubleshooting procedures and best practices.
• Conduct code reviews, testing, and optimization to ensure performance, scalability, and security.
• Collaborate with DevOps and QA teams to support CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and efficient deployments.

Skills and Competencies:

• Proficiency in configuring data elements, indicators, datasets, and programs (including Tracker).
• Ability to design data entry forms, dashboards, maps, and analytics within DHIS2.
• Experience developing custom DHIS2 apps using the DHIS2 App Platform (JavaScript/React).
• Skills in integrating DHIS2 with other systems via APIs and ensuring interoperability.
• Expertise in managing data import/export (CSV, JSON, ADX) and implementing data validation/error-handling for integrity.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for system and performance issues.
• Experience providing user support, training, and documentation.
• Familiarity with system integration, external APIs, and third-party services.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) for deployment, scaling, and management is a plus.
• Proficiency with Power BI or similar tools for creating dashboards, reports, and visualizations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach.
• Knowledge of Git version control, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in DHIS2 configuration, customization, and development, including SDLC, Agile methodologies, and user support.
• Hands-on expertise with DHIS2 Web APIs, integrations, and health data standards/metadata.
• Proficiency in JavaScript, web technologies, and DHIS2 app development; knowledge of Java is beneficial for advanced integrations.
• Demonstrated experience in health information systems, data management, and tools like Power BI.
• Experience with database management, cloud deployments, and external interfaces is an advantage.
